Broome Manor Pétanque

A Final Farewell from Gerry

We were very sorry to learn of the sudden passing of Gerry Charity.  Gerry has been a regular part of the local pétanque scene for many years. He played on most days of the week at Broome Manor, Highworth and Cricklade.  Gerry was an excellent player and played in most of our competitions and also formerly played for Saxons PC in local leagues.  He was well liked by both team mates and opposition alike.  He will be sorely missed.  We share our deepest sympathy with all his family and friends.

Gerry’s funeral took place at St Andrew’s Church, Blunsdon St. Andrew on Thursday June 6th.  He was buried at Whitworth Road cemetery.  There followed a celebration of his life at Broome Manor Golf Club.

COMPETITIONS

The Competition Programme for 2024 is as follows:

Competitions are open to regular players at Broome Manor.

A nominal entry fee is charged to cover the cost of prizes.

Flashboules at the National Trust

For the date of the next Flashboules session see the explanation below.

We play an informal game during the morning.  The terrain is somewhat like a French village square and we play in the French manner.  Each end is played from where the coche ends up during the previous end.

Sessions are held twice a month on a Friday.  If there are 4 Fridays in the month the sessions will be on the 2nd and last Friday.    If there are 5 Fridays in the month they will be held on the 3rd and last Fridays.   Meet for coffee at 10:00 am for a 10:30 start.

See venues for details.

In the event of snow at Broome Manor…

Please - do not scrape snow off the pistes.

Why? - We will lose the grit surface.

Please - do not clear the snow from the middle pistes onto the side pistes.

Why? - piled up snow takes longer to melt.

Best Advice - leave alone, check the website.
